Socio-demographic differences in compulsive buying in Slovakia: A quantile regression approach

Abstract
This study examines socio-demographic and socio-economic differences in compulsive buying tendencies among adult consumers in Slovakia using a quantile regression approach. The analysis is based on a quota-based sample of 1,000 respondents aged 18 years and older. Data were collected in March 2025 through an online questionnaire survey administered by the professional research agency FOCUS. Compulsive buying was measured using a standardized 16-item Compulsive Buying Behavior scale evaluated on a seven-point Likert scale. The overall compulsive buying score was calculated as the arithmetic mean of all items, and the scale demonstrated high internal consistency. Quantile regression models were estimated at τ = 0.25, τ = 0.50, and τ = 0.75 to examine whether socio-demographic and socio-economic factors operate differently across lower, medium, and higher levels of compulsive buying tendencies. The results indicate that unemployment is the most consistent socio-economic predictor of higher compulsive buying tendencies across the analyzed quantiles. Education shows a predominantly negative but less stable association, with statistically significant effects observed mainly at the median quantile for selected educational categories. Age is negatively associated with compulsive buying, particularly at the median quantile, while gender and personal income do not show stable statistically significant effects. The overall explanatory power of the models is limited, suggesting that socio-demographic characteristics capture only part of the variability in compulsive buying behavior. The study contributes to consumer behavior research by showing that quantile regression can reveal heterogeneous associations that may be obscured in mean-based models. At the same time, the findings should be interpreted as evidence of partial socio-demographic differences rather than as a comprehensive explanation of compulsive buying behavior.

Industrial Revolutions and their impact on managerial practice: Learning from the past

With the current technological shift and Fourth Industrial Revolution, many questions arise regarding the impacts and effects on current ways businesses operate. This study presents a retrospective analysis and overview of previous industrial revolutions. The aim of the retrospective analysis is to identify common characteristics that may lead to lessons learned for the forthcoming Fourth Industrial Revolution and thus complement the current debate on technological change. All previous industrial revolutions have led to change in business environments and new challenges for managers and owners. The findings show that all previous revolutions have led to increase in the number of service jobs created. The key approach of successful countries during the times of industrial revolution has included education as the source of new skills and knowledge necessary for adaption. Countries that were able to produce high skilled people could not only invent, but also adapt to new technologies sooner than others. Similarly, these approaches included introduction of new managerial practices in order to be able to utilize new technologies and new skilled workers effectively. The research article processes secondary data together with literature review on this topic.

Individualism and self-reliance of Generations Y and Z and their impact on working environment: An empirical study across 5 European countries

However, the challenge is to get to know the Generation Z, whose individuals are currently entering the labor market for research and practical application. The presented paper aims to expand the knowledge of Generations Y and Z in the field of individualism and self-reliance. This issue is examined concerning independence regarding housing and financial independence to parental help. The aim of the study is an empirical verification of possible similarities and differences between Generations Y and Z. The study is based on an online questionnaire survey. Data were obtained from more than 1,500 respondents of these Generations (born in 1982–2005) in 5 European countries (Czech Republic, Denmark, the Netherlands, Poland, and Slovakia). Data are examined using a two-tailed t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, and regression analysis. The overall findings of the study indicate intergenerational differences in the issue of independence, with Generation Z, unlike Millennials, becoming more self-sufficient at a younger age. Research has also found that women leave the parental household earlier than men. The paper presents the possible influence of the outputs on the working environment and work motivation of the Generations Y and Z.

Problems and Perspectives in Management Volume 23, 2025 Issue #1 pp. 569-583 Views: 3578 Downloads: 972 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯAs an upper-middle-income country, Armenia should develop and implement targeted policies, such as increased R&D investments, education reforms, and industry-academia collaboration, to enhance its innovation performance. Strengthening these areas is expected to contribute to higher Global Innovation Index (GII) rankings, reflecting improved national innovation capacity.
This study aims to estimate the impact of various GII components (including pillars, sub-indices, and sub-pillars) on the overall GII and pillar scores for upper-middle-income countries. Based on these findings, the study seeks to identify Armenia’s key policy priorities and provide targeted recommendations for enhancing its innovation performance. This study employs a cross-sectional regression to analyze the factors influencing GII scores in upper-middle-income countries, assessing the impact of sub-indices, pillars, and sub-pillars. The analysis reveals that market sophistication and creative outputs strongly influence GII scores among upper-middle-income countries, contributing significantly to national innovation performance. Additionally, knowledge and technology outputs, human capital and research, and infrastructure pillars show a statistically significant impact at the 5% level. Notably, even minor improvements in innovation output sub-index scores account for substantial variations in GII rankings. These findings suggest that Armenia should prioritize targeted education reforms, increase R&D investment, and strengthen university-industry linkages to enhance its innovation ecosystem and improve its global competitiveness.Acknowledgment
