Medical travel is a practise where patients travel to other countries for diagnostic, pathological and complex invasive surgeries due to various push factors in their home country which prevents them for getting affordable, accessible and accredited quality of medical treatment in a timely manner, due to high cost of surgery, uninsured, long waiting period, non-availability of treatment, lack of medical facilities and proper care, lack of trained doctors and nurses, ethical and regulatory reasons, corruption and inadequate public or private medical facilities. This study is based on qualitative and quantitative analysis to examine why people are travelling from Bangladesh to India for medical treatment. Quantitative data were randomly collected from six divisional cities of Bangladesh: Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, Rajshai, Barisal and Khulna and two districts Comilla and Bogra. A total of 1282 participants, out of 1450 returned the questionnaires. Data were analyzed using regression analysis. The results concluded that the pull factors that motivated Bangladeshis to travel to India for medical treatment were: low cost of surgery, qualified experienced doctors, quality of nursing care, non-availability of treatment in Bangladesh, and state of the art medical facilities and treatment in India, which concurs with the literature

Chinese renminbi, Mexican peso U.S. dollar exchange rates and their competitive positions in export markets
Chu V. Nguyen , Muhammad Mahboob Ali , Cory Angert doi: http://dx.doi.org/10.21511/bbs.11(1).2016.05Since, in the NAFTA era, the Mexican economy is much more advanced in the manufacturing sector than those of other Latin American countries, Mexico competes directly with China for U.S. imports. This study empirically investigates the behavior of the Mexican peso/Chinese yuan, Mexican peso/U.S. dollar, and Chinese yuan/U.S. dollar real exchange rates to determine whether the exchange rate policies serve as contributing factors to the subpar performance of the Mexican economy. The empirical findings suggest that the Mexican, Chinese, and U.S. real exchange rates, over the sample period, prove consistent with predations of the purchasing power parity theory; therefore, exchange rate policies may not be a contributing factor to the poor performance of the Mexican economy

Anisul M. Islam , Muhammad Mahboob Ali , Anita Medhekar doi: http://dx.doi.org/10.21511/ee.08(3).2017.01Environmental Economics Volume 8, 2017 Issue #3 pp. 8-17
Views: 1264 Downloads: 296 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯGreen production, sale, willing to pay and financing are related to green business. Bangladesh, a developing country in South Asia, is the most fertile delta region and identified as one of the front-line countries to suffer from the adverse consequences of climate change. Research question of the study is limited to examining several relationships related to green business production, sale, and willingness to pay. Primary data were utilized to test the hypothesized relationships. Based on the literature review, several conceptual relationships are presented and empirically tested. Findings conclude that production and sale of green products were related to the plan to produce and sell green products in Bangladesh. Consumers who are environmentally sensitive are willing to pay premium prices for green products and purchase these products frequently. Paper recommends that government, civil society organizations and the financial institutions should take a more active role in promoting and encouraging businesses to produce and market green products. Authors suggest that the government should provide incentives to set up community banking in the rural areas including informal sector, micro savings, and investment through green financing, for green production, green transportation and green consumption.

Muhammad Mahboob Ali , Aviral Kumar Tiwari , Naveed Raza doi: http://dx.doi.org/10.21511/bbs.12(3).2017.04Banks and Bank Systems Volume 12, 2017 Issue #3 pp. 48-60
Views: 1362 Downloads: 288 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯThe current study intends to empirically test a relationship between long-memory features in returns and volatility of Dhaka Stock Exchange market. As such, the study uses the ARFIMA-FIGARCH and FIPARCH structure for the daily data ranging from 15 December 2003 to July 31, 2013 of Dhaka Stock Exchange market index, i.e., DSE General Index (DGEN). The observed indication assembled from long-memory tests supports the occurrence of long memory in Bangladesh stock returns. The study aims at doing research work with long-memory data set, as it provides a superior strategy, as well as gives real picture with short-memory data set. Moreover, the backup indication for existence of long memory in both return and volatility denies the efficient market hypothesis of Fama (1970) that the future return and volatility values are unpredictable. Extra measures ought to be given for the smooth functioning of the Dhaka Stock Exchange market so that both individual and institutional investors can get congenial atmosphere to invest. Authors’ suggested that Bangladesh Bank must play vital role as share market of Bangladesh is dominated by banking shares and in case of other listed shares of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, market authority should deal with transparently and fairly so that the market can be transformed into strong efficient market. This requires suitable directives, groundwork, removing malpractices and also implementation of investors’ friendly decisions. Further, fiscal policy of the country should be pro investor friendly, as well as monetary policy should work as complementary towards investment at stock exchange market as suggested by the authors.

Views: 2252 Downloads: 185 TO CITE АНОТАЦІЯEconomy for green is currently becoming a “buzz word” among producers, suppliers and consumers, which is also receiving impetus in Bangladesh. Based on the literature review, a number of theoretical relationships were empirically tested. An investigative query is: to what extent the green economy is flourishing with a via to extend sustainability of the state with competitive advantage? Structured questionnaire was deliberated in order to find the relationships between the demographic variables and the green ecosystem. Time period of the research was October 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018. It was empirically observed that the relationship between the respondents of both genders and usability of green production in the country exists; the connection between business type and sensitivity of any green product is easily obtainable; the linkage between business type and awareness of any green product is accessible in the market; the linkage between type of institution and encouraging goods and services of any “Green Product” in Bangladesh occurs; the relationship between different types of institutes and use of Green Product consumption is applicable in the country. Economy for Green can possibly reduce the magnitude of the worst shock of natural disasters which increasingly occur as regular variation in addition to severe problems on human being and non-human assets. Consumers and producers are essential by conscious of green concept. Green Investment Bank in Bangladesh may be established to accomplish a broad range of economic support for innovative green projects and technologies leading to increasing capacity and sustainable connections.
