Emergence of synergetic effect in creation of collaborative alliances in natural resource management

Based on the theoretical method of generalizing the views of scientists on the essence of the “synergy” concept, the authors of the article have examined the content and essence of the concept “synergetic effect” in the article. The concept of “collaborative social responsibility” was defined during the formation of collaborative alliances in the “state-local communities-extracting enterprise” system. The authors have determined the formation of a synergetic effect in the natural resource management in the conditions of collaborative alliances and it was suggested to assess the synergetic effect from the collaborative alliance interaction in the natural resource management through the analysis of “benefits and costs”.

    The purpose of the current paper is to elaborate the model for assessing cumulative synergetic effect in M&A (Mergers and Acquisitions) deals on the basis of a real options approach. The majority of papers on the synergetic effects of M&A deals typically focus on a particular type of synergy, while the current paper proposes a model that accounts for the cumulative simultaneous effect of different types of operating and financial synergies. The methodology of our research is loosely based on Datar-Mathews real option valuation model, which is flexible and intuitive for practitioners. Formulae for assessing eight types of synergy typically arising from M&A deals are developed. They are integrated into a single model to assess their cumulative effect on the M&A deal using a simulation modelling approach. The method was used ex post to find synergy values in two recent M&A deals in the pharmaceutical industry, and produced sound results. The proposed approach to value target companies could be used by firms before an M&A deal in the due diligence process. Using this tool a company can build a bidding strategy and define the maximum premium it can pay for the target.

    This paper explores some Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs – 2 and 12) in agriculture for the Czech Republic and Ukraine. The idea is to find out best practices in implementing SDGs 2 and 12 within the responsible investment framework. For these purposes, benchmarking (comparative analysis) is used. Using data over the period of 2017–2020, a general comparative review of global and national targets of SDGs 2 and 12 in Ukraine and the Czech Republic is provided. The results justify the merely incorporation and compliance of these targets at the national and global levels. The identified problems in achieving SDG 2 and SDG 12 are common for Ukraine and the Czech Republic and relate to unequal access to investment and financial resources. Recommendations and solutions to the most important problems based on the responsible investment instruments are proposed in this paper. The research findings can be useful for regulators (both in agriculture and in the financial market), companies and a wide group of other stakeholders in promoting responsible investment to make more comprehensive progress towards SDG 2 and 12 in Czech Republic and Ukraine by 2030.

    Integration processes in the global economy promote the development of diversified integrated companies, representing a group of legally and economically independent and/or affiliated companies that carry out joint activities based on interaction and interconnections development. It is the study of the interconnections of strategic business units of diversified companies that allows to distinguish synergistic interaction features, which, in the long run, ensures the achievement of sustainable competitive advantages for companies. The main purpose of this study is to distinguish the features of the synergistic interaction of strategic business units of diversified companies and the creation of management tools for them. The authors developed and presented the simulation model for managing the interaction of strategic business units of diversified companies based on synergy and proposed an algorithm for its application in real business practice for a company operating in the building ceramic market.
