James B. Bexley
Ph.D., Chairholder of the Smith-Hutson Endowed Chair of Banking, Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, Texas, USA.
He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree, a Master of Business Administration Degree, and a Juris Doctorate Degree. He has a Ph.D. in Bank Marketing from Stirling University in Scotland in the United Kingdom.
He is a member of the Board of Directors, Federal Reserve Bank for the 11th District in Dallas, and serves the Fed District as Chairman of the Audit Committee and as a member of the Executive Committee. At the University, he developed a banking curriculum that now includes the only four-year degree in banking and financial institutions in the USA and an accredited, web-based MBA degree in banking and financial institutions. He teaches banking courses at the university, runs an intern program that produces approximately 40 banking interns per semester, and does consulting for community banks all over the U.S. and the largest private bank in China in the areas of service quality, marketing, corporate governance, and strategic planning.
Additionally at the University, James serves on the President's Capital Campaign Board, chairs the Faculty and Staff Annual Fund Program, and is a member of the College of Business Administration's Advisory Board. He was the 2010 recipient of the Faculty Excellence in Service Award.
Formerly, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of both Cardinal Bancorp and First American National Bank of Pennsylvania. He previously served as President of Banking Consultants of America, the largest bank consulting firm in the United States. His bank in McAllen, Texas, which was a part of Chemical Bank New York (now JP Morgan Chase), was the best earning of its 70 banks and grew 100% per year for four years.
Bexley has written four books on banking: "Bank Management", "Bank Director", "Directors Duties & Responsibilities". His latest work "Selling Financial Products - a Practical Guide For Successful Bank Sales" will be released in August 2011.
He has over 30 years experience as a President and Chief Executive Officer of a bank and has been at Sam Houston for 13 years as the Chairholder.
